Tulsa City Council Approves $16 Million 36th Street North, Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard Tax Increment Finance District

This evening, the Tulsa City Council voted to approve a $16 million Tax Increment Finance (TIF) District at 36th St. N. and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The TIF and 36t St. N. and MLK Project Plan, which was adopted on July 23, 2021, will provide an economic structure and funding mechanism to stimulate private investment in a $75 million multi-use development from real estate developer Alfresco Group LLC. The development includes multifamily residential units, a hotel, and retail.

New $77M court building in Newark named after Martin Luther King, Jr.

A new $77 million building along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Newark that houses 11 new courtrooms and offices for elections officials opened on Thursday. The facility is called the Martin Luther King, Jr. Justice Building and a 22-foot statue of the late civil rights activist stands outside the structure. Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr. said naming the structure after King was a natural fit since it’s located next to a plaza and a smaller statue that was dedicated to him in 2015.

Committee reviewing statues on the Capitol grounds discusses Martin Luther King, Jr.

SPRINGFIELD – The task force examining statues around the state Capitol heard Wednesday about Martin Luther King, Jr. The King statue is across the street from the Capitol. With tie loosened and jack over his shoulder, “That didn’t look like him,” said Secretary of State Jesse White, who knew King during White’s college days in Alabama. The statue makes King, White said, “look like a sharecropper. Dr. King was a dapper fellow and always had a suit and a tie on.”

To honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and commemorate Juneteenth, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Commemorative Commission is sponsoring two events to recognize Dr. King and to celebrate Juneteenth, the day that marked the effective end of slavery in the United States. Due to the pandemic the customary King Week Celebration events held in January were postponed. The theme for the King and Juneteenth Celebration events is “A Legacy of Righteous Purpose, Social Justice, and Racial Equality”.

Pool table played on by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. now in Rochester

(WHAM) - An historic artifact from Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania is now in Rochester - and brings quite the story with it. The pool table that was played on by hundreds of theological students at the seminary - including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - now sits at the Center for the Study of Civil and Human Rights Law in Rochester.

One Vehicle Lands In Woody's Chicken Parking Lot: First Responders Rush To Serious Crash At Northport and Martin Luther King Drive

Godfrey Fire Protection District and Alton Fire Department first responders rushed to a serious two-vehicle crash at Northport Drive and Martin Luther King Drive close to the Godfrey/Alton border around 9 a.m. Tuesday. One of the vehicles careened off the road onto the Woody's Chicken parking lot. The other vehicle came to rest in the intersection. Both vehicles were damaged seriously. A Flag for Martin Luther King

In the spring of 2021, a donation was made to Anderson University in honor and memory of the late civil rights leader, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Mr. Everett Humphrey ’59, an AU (Anderson College) alumnus and university donor, recently acquired the American flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol Building on April 4, 1968, the day Dr. King was assassinated.
