PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Out with the old and in with the new. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center was demolished Monday, but the story only begins there. “Today is the first step in that progress to the future and to be the premier city in the panhandle of Florida,” Mark McQueen,” Panama City City Manager, said.

Star Trek: The Original Series aired for three seasons between 1966 and 1969, and in the meantime broke essential ground not only in science fiction and fandom, but also in civil rights and real scientific development. Iconic Nichelle Nichols, who died last week at the age of 89, played communications officer Lt. Nyota Uhura during the entirety of the show’s run, and was at the heart of the progress that the show represented.

White Oak Rd., Hovey Ave. to Martin Luther King Dr. Closed Effective August 9, 2022, at 7:00am

BLOOMINGTON, IL – Beginning Tuesday at 7:00 a.m., both the northbound and southbound lanes of White Oak Rd., from Hovey Ave. to Martin Luther King Dr., will be closed to all traffic due to water work. Traffic will be detoured down Hovey Ave. to Cottage Ave., south on Cottage Ave. to Martin Luther King Rd. to White Oak Rd. This section of White Oak Rd. will be reopened as soon as work is completed.

Atlantic City unveils new murals featuring Martin Luther King, Jr. at an N.J. beach

A three-story mural of historic photos debuted this month in Atlantic City. The shots include one of a young Muhammad Ali, and another of Martin Luther King Jr. in a linen shirt and shorts at nearby Chicken Bone Beach. A third is of Fannie Lou Hamer, who rocketed to national attention during the 1964 Democratic National Convention, held in Atlantic City. She’s known for leading the Mississippi Freedom Party’s efforts to highlight virulent racism in the South that was costing Black people their lives.

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Two hard-working students received scholarships dedicated to one of the greatest civil rights leaders of all time. The Martin Luther King Junior Committee of Meridian gives out multiple scholarships every year in honor of his progress for the African American community. Kiersten White and Tamiyah Bridges were the recipients of the scholarship this year.

Three Men Convicted Of St Petersburg Double Murder On Martin Luther King, Jr Observance Day | USAO-MDFL

Tampa, Fla. – United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announces that a federal jury has found Kermon Williams, a/k/a “The General” (42, St. Petersburg), James Higgs, Jr., a/k/a “ Hammer” (40, St. Petersburg), and Jhaphre Higgs, a/k/a “Pre” (35, St. Petersburg) guilty of the murders of Roger Lee Ford, Jr. and Tywan Jeremiah Armstrong, which occurred in St. Petersburg on January 21, 2019, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Day. Each faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 20 years, and up to life, in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for September 27, 2022, before the Honorable Charlene E. Honeywell.
