Martha Smith Poynter, age 78, of Cave City, KY passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022 at her residence. The Barren County native was born on March 1, 1944 to the late Robert Leonard Smith and Ruby Lee Tapscott Smith. She was married to the late Billy Thomas Poynter, who also preceded her in death.

The cause of death was not disclosed, but HPH officials did confirm it wasn't related to Covid-19. Per the company's website, Smith was diagnosed with a form of gynecologic cancer back in 2010 and was a patient at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children, which she oversaw as CEO.
