Payton signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Tuesday that includes an invitation to major-league camp. Payton was non-tendered by the Mets just before the start of the lockout but has now latched on with a new team. The 30-year-old played in 24 games with Cincinnati last season and went 4-for-22 with two walks and two runs scored.

Payton was non-tendered by the Mets on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Payton was acquired by the Mets from Cincinnati in late July, and he remained at the Triple-A level the rest of the season. He hit well during his time in the minors with the Mets and had an .862 OPS in 40 games, but he struggled in the big leagues prior to the trade, going 4-for-22 with seven strikeouts.
