Mark Martin honored by West Virginia Sports Writers Association with 2022 Morehouse Award

Mark Martin, a print and broadcast journalist for four decades, has been selected the winner of the 2022 Morehouse Award by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. The award is given for contributions to journalism and named for the late Marshall University sports information director and broadcaster Gene Morehouse, who was killed in the 1970 airplane crash that claimed the lives of 75 Marshall football players, coaches, staff and fans. The award has been given since 1971 with the list of recipients on the wvswa.org website.

MMA fighter Mark Martin suffered a gruesome injury inside the cage last weekend, popping his eye out of his socket. He was competing in a Professional Fighters League (PFL) bout against Dilano Taylor at Universal Studios in Florida when he was struck with a blow to his left eye.After being hit, Martin blew his nose and in turn, blew his eye out of the socket. Mark Martin provides update following nasty eye injury at PFL Challengers: “If my eye recovers 100% I will be back”

PFL Challengers fighter Mark Martin has provided an update on his recovery following a gruesome eye injury during his last fight. While he may have enjoyed some success against Dilano Taylor, the night didn’t end well for Mark Martin on Friday as he lost due to a doctor stoppage between the first and second round. The reason for the stoppage was because the eye of Martin was bulging out of the socket, which his manager believes happened because he blew his nose which led to the pressure causing an escalation of the initial injury.
