Marcus Browne Trainer: We Want Artur Beterbiev Next

Light heavyweight contender Marcus Browne has been relatively quiet for the past two years, but his longtime trainer, Gary Stark Sr., is hoping his charge can change that trend by ending the year with a statement performance – against, no less, the feared, two-belt Russian champion of the division, Artur Beterbiev.

Clifton native Marcus Browne returns to ring in ‘secret’, untelevised match

Clifton native Marcus Browne (24-1, 16 KOs) returned to the ring for the first time in nearly two years on Tuesday night, in a bout that next to no one knew about. The 30-year-old southpaw “appeared” on the undercard of the FS1-hosted lineup, though his matchup with 38-year-old Denis Grachev (20-13-1, 11 KOs) received no promotion and minimal fanfare -- the seemingly unannounced contest was NOT televised.

Island product Marcus Browne to fight Tuesday night in Los Angeles | Here’s how you can watch the fight

Marcus Browne’s long-awaited return to the ring will come Tuesday night in Los Angeles. The pandemic, plus a handful of domestic disputes, have kept the Island product out of the ring since August of 2019. And tonight’s fight -- sponsored by Premier Champions, against Denis Grachev (19-12-1) came out of nowhere, too, as it wasn’t on any schedule until recently.

Looks like Dmitry Bivol may get his wish. Late yesterday evening, the WBC announced that former WBO super middleweight champion and current top light heavyweight contender Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez has officially withdrawn from an ordered interim title fight against Marcus Browne. Gilberto Ramirez Will Push To Finalize Marcus Browne Clash For WBC-Interim

Former WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez declared himself ready to face Marcus Browne for the interim-WBC title in the light heavyweight division. The head of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán, mentioned that this fight was ordered due to the inactivity of current champion Artur Beterbiev, who has had problems defending his belt. Beterbiev has had to deal with postponements, injuries and more recently a diagnosis of COVID-19. Beterbiev has been out of the ring since the fall of 2019, when he unified the WBC/IBF title with a stoppage win over Oleksandr Usyk.

Gilberto Ramirez vs Marcus Browne possible for interim WBC title

Artur Beterbiev had some wicked momentum rolling when he defeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk in brutally effective fashion in Oct. 2019, but his momo slowed to ‘no go,’ as he didn’t glove up once in 2020 and has had various setbacks trying to get a fight with Adam Deines in the books.
