Illness prompts removal of Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Marcin Tybura heavyweight bout from UFC 273 card

A heavyweight bout between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Marcin Tybura has been removed from the UFC 273 card because of an illness by Tybura, the UFC announced Friday. Tybura was the second-to-last fighter to weigh in Friday morning, but he was well within the 266-pound, nontitle heavyweight limit, weighing 253 pounds. The UFC did not go into detail about Tybura's illness.

Marcin Tybura vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik scrapped from UFC 273

Shortly after the UFC 273 weigh-ins concluded, the promotion announced that the heavyweight contest between Marcin Tybura and Jairzinho Rozenstruik had been canceled. Tybura suffered an undisclosed illness, and the promotion did not state if it was related to COVID-19 like it has for other recent illness scratches. Tybura (253) and Rozenstruik (252.5) both made weight without issue.

The UFC has found another top tier heavyweight matchup for the first quarter of their 2022 schedule. Eurosport’s Marcel Dorff reports that the promotion has booked a bout between #6 ranked Jairzinho Rozenstruik, taking on #9 ranked Marcin Tybura. The contest has not been made official by the UFC as of yet, but is expected to take place on February 26th, in Las Vegas on the main card of the Beneil Dariush vs. Islam Makhachev Fight Night event.
