Loranne Ausley: Legislative session update – week 8

We are now one week away from the end of the 2021 Legislative Session. With only 70 bills that have passed both the Senate and House, and a budget that is still not resolved we have a lot of work to do. Budget negotiations began late last week, continued through last weekend and are still in process. Session is scheduled to end next Friday, April 30th but the only way we can end on time is if the budget is finalized, published and available to Legislators and the public by Tuesday. The Constitution requires a 72 hour “cooling off” period from the time the budget is provided to Members before a final vote – so the Tuesday deadline is important to a timely finish.
