The Flyers announced Tuesday that they have hired John Torchetti as an assistant coach for the remainder of the season. Torchetti will join Mike Yeo, who will remain interim coach for the rest of 2021-22, along with assistant coaches Darryl Williams and Nick Schultz. The Flyers have had a vacant assistant position since firing coach Alain Vigneault and assistant Michel Therrien on Dec. 6 and promoting then-assistant Yeo to interim coach. Schultz, the team’s player development coach, was brought in at that time to fill the other assistant vacancy.

Both players were scheduled to become restricted free agents this offseason and are now under contract for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

Sandin signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Flyers on Monday. Sandin will remain in the Flyers organization. He had 10 points in 26 AHL games last season and is yet to make an appearance with the big club.

Anyway, the Flyers have done a bit of shuffling with their AHL and Taxi Squad rosters, sending Carsen Twarynski and Connor Bunnaman to the Phantoms and then recalling Tanner Laczynski and Linus Sandin to the Taxi Squad.

Sandin was promoted to the Flyers' taxi squad Thursday. Sandin will likely be on hand as an emergency option for Saturday's game versus the Islanders. He's picked up five points through 13 AHL appearances this year.
