Orange Is the New Black's Lea DeLaria recalls ending up in the hospital decades ago after being “majorly, majorly gay-bashed” in San Francisco

“My nose was broken, chipped an eye socket, had several cracked ribs,” the 63-year-old DeLaria says of her experience at age 24. “I’ve been verbally abused more times than you can mention in my life, and that still goes on. There’s always someone who’s going to call me a fat guy.” DeLaria tells Page Six the harassment has eased in recent years due to her beloved role as Carrie “Big Boo” Black on OITNB, but she notes that gay-bashing has always “been incredibly rough” for butch lesbians like herself.
