This 2021-22 season was one where there were ups and downs for Lauri Markkanen. It was his first season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, after he was acquired via sign-and-trade last offseason from the Chicago Bulls. That deal was for four years and $67.5 million, with that only guaranteed for $6 million in the last season of the contract.

Markkanen recorded 26 points (10-17 FG, 6-12 3Pt), eight rebounds, two assists and one block in Friday's 107-101 loss to Atlanta. Markkanen closed Sunday's 133-115 win over Milwaukee with 23 points (8-11 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 3-3 FT) and seven rebounds in 21 minutes. Markkanen inflicted swift damage in only 21 minutes. His total was bolstered with four three-pointers and a superb rebounding total, a category where the Cavs dominated against a depleted /Milwaukee roster.

From my perspective, and I’d imagine many Cleveland Cavaliers fans’, it’s fair to say that Lauri Markkanen has had some peaks and valleys over the course of this season. That was often how it was for him in his first four seasons with the Chicago Bulls, too.

Markkanen continued a productive run that has seen him average 18.3 points, 6.9 boards, 2.8 threes, 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals over the last 10 games despite sitting out one contest during that stretch due to a minor ankle issue.
