A global infectious disease expert believes a strategy used to stop the world's deadliest virus in history can be applied to Hawaii's battle against the coronavirus. Dr. Larry Brilliant was part of the World Health Organization team that eradicated smallpox in 1980 -- a disease that killed half a billion people across globe. Over the past year, he's been advising Big Island leaders on their COVID-19 response and spoke exclusively to KITV-4's Annalisa Burgos about Hawaii's battle against the coronavirus and new variants.
