The University of Illinois Springfield has closed on its purchase of the downtown building that will become the new home of the university’s Innovation Center. The three-story building at Fourth and Washington had belonged to the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association. Purchased for $950,000, the building will eventually house the Innovate Springfield program, labs to create and test product prototypes, workforce development programs, and space for the UIS Center for State Policy and Leadership.
