New BTS Stills From the Set of SBS Sageuk Hong Chun Gi with Kim Yoo Jung, Ahn Hyo Seob, and Kwak Si Yang

We’ll have to wait until year end to assess the success of the 2021 sageuks but all eyes are now on SBS late summer premiere of Hong Chun Gi (Red Sky) with the high profile adaptation of the romance sageuk novel by the writer of Sungkyunkwan Scandal and The Moon Embraces the Sun. The latter remains the highest rated sageuk drama of the last decade and young swoony romance against the backdrop of the palace yielded a ratings hit a few years ago with Moonlight Drawn by Stars. There is the common element of Kim Yoo Jung being in both dramas, as the teen version of the female lead and later as the female lead proper like she is here in Hong Chun Gi, and I hope the drama and her male lead Ahn Hyo Seob will be worthy of her deep talents which have been wasted in her recent modern dramas. There are new BTS stills including second male lead Kwak Si Yang sharing a beverage truck sent by his Alice costar Kim Hee Sun, which is probably the best thing to come out of that drama lol.

The reporter expects to see further maturity and transformation in River as she keeps building her expansive career which has toggled between successful modern dramas in different genres like Let’s Fight Ghost and Love Alarm as well as sageuks like Nokdu.

Two of the most anticipated sageuk dramas of 2021 both dropped 30 second previews and OMOMOMO I love and already want to tease each for different reasons. First off let’s get to SBS sageuk Hong Chun Gi, given the English title of Red Sky, starring Kim Yoo Jung and Ahn Hyo Seob based on the novel by the same writer as The Moon Embraces the Sun. The teaser is moody and melancholy and subdued, great visuals all around except for the hairstyle given to Ahn Hyo Seob.

Shin Dong Yeob and Kim Yoo Jung to Host 2020 SBS Drama Awards with No Table Seating and Winners Coming Out to Accept Award Solo

I’m glad that SBS is still holding its year end SBS Drama Awards and that its decided to forgo tradition that makes it like a year end party and do it social distanced in a time of increasing yet again COVID counts. The network will not have all the attendees sit in round tables below the stage and instead winners will stay backstage socially distanced and come out to accept their awards, which will not be handed to them but will already be placed on a table with a clean microphone for the winner to give a speech and then take their award. Nicely done. Hosting this year will be Shin Dong Yeob and Kim Yoo Jung, that’s be a cute veteran-youngster vibe. In the running for the SBS Drama Daesang (Grand Prize) is now a four person race between Han Suk Kyu for Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim 2, Namgong Min in Stove League, villainess Kim So Yeon for Penthouse, and weekend ratings winner Once Again‘s Lee Min Jung.

Gong Myung and Kwak Si Yang Confirmed to Join Sageuk Drama Hong Chun Gi with Kim Yoo Jung and Ahn Hyo Seob

I didn’t know the casting wasn’t “confirmed” confirmed until this week since the whole cast has been filming already. But here goes, alongside leads Kim Yoo Jung and. b in sageuk romance Hong Chun Gi, the drama will have Gong Myung as the other line in the love triangle with Kwak Si Yang playing the antagonist to the bunch of young pretties. Gong Myung and Kwak Si Yang’s characters are both royal princes, either half-siblings or maybe uncle-nephew who knows those darn Joseon rulers with their ridiculously complicated progeny lines. I love this cast though am sad to see Kwak Si Yang playing bad, but I hope this is the last time and he can go back to being the Daddiest Hot Daddy Bodyguard type of all time like he did in Alice.
