Powell’s NXT Hit List: Johnny Gargano vs. Bronson Reed in a steel cage match for the NXT North American Championship, Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher vs. Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde, Killian Dain vs. Alexander Wolfe, Zoey Stark vs. Toni Storm, Cameron Grimes vs. Jake Atlas

Johnny Gargano vs. Bronson Reed in a steel cage match for the NXT North American Championship: NXT did a terrific job of setting the table for the Reed win. While it may have tipped off the win for some, it had to serve as a nice hook to keep viewers watching to see if they would follow through on the title change. The match quality was strong and this all made for a nice moment. The story that Reed won the title on the anniversary of his first match 14 years earlier made this feel even more special.

Powell’s NXT Hit List: MSK and Kushida vs. Legado del Fantasma, Mercedes Martinez vs. Dakota Kai, Bronson Reed vs. Austin Theory, Killian Dain and Drake Maverick vs. Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner, Cameron Grimes and Ted DiBiase

Kushida and “MSK” Wes Lee and Nash Carter vs. “Legado del Fantasma” Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, and Raul Mendoza: A strong six-man tag match that did a great job of putting heat on the heel trio. In doing so, they also set up a pair of title matches with Escobar going after the NXT Cruiserweight Title that he lost to Kushida, while Wilde and Mendoza presumably earned an NXT Tag Title shot by giving MSK their first loss.

Powell’s NXT Hit List: Raquel Gonzalez, Bianca Belair, and Rhea Ripley segment, Franky Monet debuts, Santos Escobar vs. Kushida for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, MSK vs. Killian Dain and Drake Maverick for the NXT Tag Titles, Isaiah Scott vs. Leon Ruff

Raquel Gonzalez, Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley, Franky Monet, and Dakota Kai: NXT had a much better post WrestleMania segment than Raw did. I loved this segment. Gonzalez’s championship win followup promo was solid. The debut of Monet (and her scene stealing dog) was perfectly timed and I can’t wait for her feud with Gonzalez. As if that wasn’t enough, the appearances of Ripley and Belair were terrific and really put this over the top. It will be very interesting to see what the future holds for Kai. Gonzalez seems like she’s moving into babyface mode. And while Kai is versatile and could swap sides and play the little buddy role where challengers destroy her just to get to Gonzalez, she’s an outstanding heel and could be a strong rival for Gonzalez when the time is right.

Powell’s NXT Hit List: Finn Balor and Kyle O’Reilly vs. NXT Tag Champs Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan in a non-title match, MSK vs. Drake Maverick and Killian Dain, and Grizzled Young Vets vs. Kushida and Leon Ruff in Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic matches

NXT Tag Team Champions Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan vs. Finn Balor and Kyle O’Reilly in a non-title match: The story between Balor and O’Reilly continues to be compelling. I’m not sure where it goes or what happens with Undisputed Era, but I’m enjoying the ride. Burch and Lorcan are no longer the tough luck babyfaces who don’t back down from anyone. They are vulnerable heel champions, so losing to Balor and O’Reilly in a non-title match was fine. The post match angle with Pete Dunne’s latest attack on Balor put more heat on the heels. I’m not a fan of the finger snapping spot being used and forgotten during matches, but it’s effective when it’s sold like Balor did in this angle.

Mercedes Martinez attacks Io Shirai: Martinez was lucky enough to escape the awful Retribution faction and returned to NXT with a good beatdown on the NXT Women’s Champion. Shirai vs. Martinez should be great. Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan vs. Killian Dain and Drake Maverick in a Street Fight for...
