Grey's Anatomy's Kelly McCreary and Anthony Hill Offer Some Promising Season 17 Finale Teases

Watch: "Grey's Anatomy" Cast Teases Season 17 Finale. Grey's Anatomy does not have a great history with weddings. It's not that they're always disasters, exactly, but they just never go as planned. Cristina (Sandra Oh) got left at the altar, which was bad, and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) got derailed from her own wedding to operate on Richard's wife. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) were supposed to have a big fancy wedding, but then Izzie (Katherine Heigl) got a brain tumor, so she and Alex (Justin Chambers) used the big fancy wedding instead. Years later, Alex was supposed to have a fancy wedding to Jo (Camilla Luddington), but then after a series of mishaps, they got married on a ferry instead, allowing April (Sarah Drew) and Matthew (Justin Bruening) to use their original wedding to get married.

Chandra Wilson and Kelly McCreary Open Up About Being Black Women on Grey's Anatomy

Watch: Ellen Pompeo Dedicates "Greys Anatomy" Season to Healthcare Workers. Once upon a time, Shonda Rhimes had a very different vision of Miranda Bailey. Bailey, played by Chandra Wilson, has ruled over Grey's Anatomy ever since the pilot, when Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and her fellow interns learned to be very afraid of the woman people called the "nazi." In a new Black History Month interview with Good Morning America, Wilson and executive producer Zoanne Clack recalled the audition process and the fact that originally, Bailey was "a tiny blonde with curls who was underestimated." She was actually the only character with a specified ethnicity in the script, but Wilson won the role.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Kelly McCreary on Black History: ‘I Knew I Wasn’t Being Told the Truth’ (Guest Column)

Growing up, February came chock full of goodness: Martin Luther King Jr., Shirley Chisholm, Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. Du Bois, Booker T. Washington, Mary McCleod Bethune, Rosa Parks, plus everyone who lived during the Harlem Renaissance. There was so much to cram into 28 (or 29) days, that often, these whole entire lives were reduced to just a couple of paragraphs printed beneath their most iconic, heroic-looking portrait.
