Lifetime's 'An Amish Sin' gives Kellie Martin a very different role

With four decades of television work behind her, relatively few "firsts" remain for Kellie Martin. However, playing an Amish woman is one of them -- and she has that role in "An Amish Sin," a Lifetime drama movie debuting Saturday, Oct. 29. She plays the tradition-bound mother of a teenager (Dylan Ratzlaff) who is sent to a facility for rehabilitation after refusing to wed a man who abused her earlier. The young woman then runs away to a nearby city where she's unfamiliar with modern ways, getting help from a new friend (Rukiya Bernard) in adjusting while struggling to make peace with her past.

10 Things You Didn’t Know about Kellie Martin

Growing up in the 80s and the 90s meant growing up with what can only be described as wholesome television. There was the entire TGIF generation (proud of that one) and there were those of us who will tell you that while there are some amazing shows on television right now, nothing compares to growing up with 80s and 90s television. The show “Life Goes On,” was one of those shows. It was one we began watching religiously in 1989 and didn’t stop until the final show aired in 1993. Literally, because we had no choice. If we did not watch it when it aired, we did not watch it at all. There wasn’t a streaming service to be found. TiVo and DVR didn’t exist. On Demand wasn’t yet a thing. The internet wasn’t even a thing. Did we even have computers at home at that point? Kellie Martin is the kind of woman who was a major star in her time, and she was part of the “Life Goes On,” cast. Now she’s back for the reboot, and we want to know more about her.

ABC’s groundbreaking family drama Life Goes On is getting a new lease on you-know-what. Warner Bros. Television is developing a revival of the ’90s series, with original cast member Kellie Martin (Becca) set to star and produce. Chad Lowe, whose HIV-positive character Jesse died in the original show, will return solely as a producer. (An earlier version of this story hinted at a possible on screen return for Lowe, but a Warner Bros. rep has since shot down that speculation.) A Life Goes On reboot is in the works with original stars Kellie Martin and Chad Lowe

All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll is leading the potential revival of the groundbreaking 1989-1993 ABC family drama about a family with a son with Down syndrome. With Chris Burke's Corky, Life Goes On was the first show with a major character with Down syndrome. "The sequel will revisit a grown-up Becca Thatcher, played by Martin, now an accomplished doctor, and her extended family as she returns to her hometown," according to Deadline. As TVLine notes, Lowe co-starred as the HIV-positive boyfriend of Martin's Becca who would eventually die of AIDS, so it's unclear how he'll appear in the series. The Life Goes On reboot will be shopped to networks and streaming services.
