Kaleigh Gilchrist Thanks Trainer Larnie Boquiren, Reflecting On A Day She’ll Never Forget

Kaleigh Gilchrist and Sami Hill celebrate winning the women's water polo final against Italy at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 on Aug. 19, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. I am not quite sure I would be able to call myself a two-time Olympian without your love, support and guidance. You’ve always been by my side on this crazy two-year journey that you dubbed “The Mamba Mission,” and we get to continue that mission to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Long and painful delay ends up benefiting U.S. water polo Olympian Kaleigh Gilchrist

If the Tokyo Olympics had gone forward as scheduled last year, Kaleigh Gilchrist might have been watching the women’s water polo tournament on TV instead of playing in it. In the summer of 2019, she sustained severe injuries when a balcony she was standing on collapsed. And though she had physically recovered in time to be considered for the U.S. roster in 2020, she wasn’t ready mentally.
