For the second time in his career, Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois fell just short in voting for the Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award. Joe Sakic of the Stanley Cup champion Avalanche was announced as the winner during the NHL draft Thursday night in Montreal. The award...
The Tampa Bay Lightning front office now has to begin the work on next season, hoping to rebuild a team that came close to winning three Stanley Cups in a row. Anyone who watched the Final could tell that the list of injuries (on both sides) was long, and Tuesday general manager Julien BriseBois met with the media to explain some of those ailments.
Julien BriseBois revealed the injuries that the Tampa Bay Lightning played through during the postseason
We are going to start by saying that this is in no means an excuse or a reason why the Tampa Bay Lightning did not win the Stanley Cup Final. When the Colorado Avalanche sober up and have their exit interviews, it’s likely they will have a similar list. What it does show is the dedication that the players go through in their quest for the Cup. It also gives some clarity as to why players may not be performing to the standards that we randomly assign them.
Lou Lamoriello of the New York Islanders won the Jim Gregory Award in back-to-back years in 2020 and 2021 and any of Drury, BriseBois and Sakic would be first-time winners. Drury was promoted to general manager of the Rangers last May when the organization fired John Davidson and Jeff Gorton. The Rangers went from missing the playoffs in 2021 to finishing 52-24-6 and reaching the Eastern Conference Final. Gerard Gallant, the team’s head coach, was named the Jack Adams Award winner.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have become a mainstay in the NHL playoffs for nearly a decade. Aside from the back-to-back Stanley Cups, they have not missed the playoffs since 2017-18 and have played postseason hockey in eight of the last ten seasons. Many see the success of the team over the last decade as the fruits of former general manager (GM) Steve Yzerman’s labor while in Tampa Bay. He took over as GM and vice president of the club in 2010, before stepping down in September of 2018. Then after serving as a senior advisor to the GM for the 2018-19 season, he took the GM job for the Detroit Red Wings for the 2019-20 campaign.
TAMPA — Maybe one day the Lightning will pay for their perceived misdeeds. They’ll pay for flirting with salary cap disaster every year; they’ll pay for trading away prospects and high-round draft picks. But this won’t be the day. And the Lightning’s deadline deal for forward Brandon...
TAMPA — As the Lightning approach the midway point of the regular season, general manager Julien BriseBois likes where his team sits atop the NHL standings. Despite being without stars Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point for lengthy stretches, Tampa Bay entered Wednesday’s off day tied with the Florida Panthers for the most points in the league with 53.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have agreed on a contract extension with general manager Julien BriseBois. "I can confirm Julien is under contract beyond this year," team owner Jeff Vinik told Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic and TSN. He added: "We have agreed upon an extension." Eduardo A. Encina of the...
Steve Yzerman may have built the foundation, but it was Julien BriseBois who put the finishing touches on a back-to-back Stanley Cup champion. For that, the Tampa Bay Lightning have awarded their general manager a much-deserved extension. As first reported by TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, BriseBois has signed a new multiyear contract to remain in Tampa.
