The Tampa Bay Lightning front office now has to begin the work on next season, hoping to rebuild a team that came close to winning three Stanley Cups in a row. Julien BriseBois revealed the injuries that the Tampa Bay Lightning played through during the postseason

We are going to start by saying that this is in no means an excuse or a reason why the Tampa Bay Lightning did not win the Stanley Cup Final. When the Colorado Avalanche sober up and have their exit interviews, it’s likely they will have a similar list. What it does show is the dedication that the players go through in their quest for the Cup. It also gives some clarity as to why players may not be performing to the standards that we randomly assign them.

Julien BriseBois, Joe Sakic and Chris Drury named GM of the Year finalists

Lou Lamoriello of the New York Islanders won the Jim Gregory Award in back-to-back years in 2020 and 2021 and any of Drury, BriseBois and Sakic would be first-time winners. Drury was promoted to general manager of the Rangers last May when the organization fired John Davidson and Jeff Gorton. The Rangers went from missing the playoffs in 2021 to finishing 52-24-6 and reaching the Eastern Conference Final. Gerard Gallant, the team’s head coach, was named the Jack Adams Award winner.

Lightning’s Julien BriseBois Deserves More Credit for Team’s Success

The Tampa Bay Lightning have become a mainstay in the NHL playoffs for nearly a decade. Aside from the back-to-back Stanley Cups, they have not missed the playoffs since 2017-18 and have played postseason hockey in eight of the last ten seasons. Many see the success of the team over the last decade as the fruits of former general manager (GM) Steve Yzerman’s labor while in Tampa Bay. He took over as GM and vice president of the club in 2010, before stepping down in September of 2018. Then after serving as a senior advisor to the GM for the 2018-19 season, he took the GM job for the Detroit Red Wings for the 2019-20 campaign.

As first reported by TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, BriseBois has signed a new multiyear contract to remain in Tampa.
