HOLYOKE — Mayor Joshua Garcia, accompanied by his wife, Stefany, and their family celebrated his inaugural at a ball held at the Log Cabin banquet house on Saturday night. Garcia, the city’s first Latino mayor, was elected on Nov. 2, 2021. He received about 56% of the vote to defeat Councilor Michael J. Sullivan and succeed former Mayor Alex B. Morse.

Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia’s transition team to establish advisory councils

HOLYOKE — The group of 13 people gathered behind Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia on Tuesday evening were a who’s who of civic leaders in the city. Standing together in City Hall, the Garcia administration’s transition team held a press conference Tuesday evening to update the city on its progress and announce the creation of a series of advisory councils that will inform the mayor’s work after the transition team dissolves at year’s end.

History was made in the city of Holyoke, Massachusetts today when a new mayor took office. Joshua Garcia became the first Latino to serve as mayor in Holyoke’s history. The 35-year old took the oath of office in a brief ceremony in the City Hall Auditorium in front of about 200 people who included elected officials, city workers, Holyoke residents and business owners. The new mayor’s mother, his wife and their two young children sat in the front row.
