Rangers' Josh Smith: Beginning year at Triple-A

The Rangers assigned Smith to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Chris Halicke of reports. The assignment is an aggressive one for Smith, who received only 127 plate appearances at the Double-A level in 2021, all of which came after he joined the Rangers organization as part of the July trade that sent Joey Gallo to the Yankees. The 24-year-old passed the test in his limited sample of action with Double-A Hickory, slashing .294/.425/.431 with three home runs while going 7-for-9 stolen base attempts. Smith will likely be in line for a lengthier stay at Round Rock than he had at Hickory, but he could push his way on to the big-league roster at some point in the second half of 2022 if he continues to showcase the high-level contact, on-base and baserunning skills he demonstrated a season ago.

Rangers' Josh Smith: Assigned to minor-league camp

Smith was assigned to minor-league camp Sunday, Kennedi Landry of reports. Smith, one of the prospects acquired from the Yankees in the Joey Gallo trade, made a huge impression during his Cactus League appearances. He went 6-for-9 with two home runs, one double and five RBI over six spring games at the time he was assigned. Smith, who pressed for at-bats at third base, is expected to play all over the infield and center field while at Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers' Josh Smith: Gets start Monday

Smith (ankle) will start at shortstop and bat eighth Monday in the Rangers' Cactus League game against the Guardians. Texas scratched Smith from its lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers while he contended with a sore ankle, but the extra day off was apparently all the infield prospect needed to move past the issue. Smith, who was one of several farmhands the Rangers acquired last summer in the deal that sent Joey Gallo to the Yankees, slashed .294/.425/.431 with three home runs and seven stolen bases across 127 plate appearances at Double-A Frisco following his arrival from New York.

Rangers' Josh Smith: Dealing with ankle soreness

Smith was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's Cactus League game against the Brewers due to ankle soreness, Kennedi Landry of reports. Smith was initially slated to start at second base against Milwaukee, but he never took the field due to his ankle injury. The move is mainly considered precautionary, so it's possible that the 24-year-old will be back in action within a few days.

Josh Smith and Jon Deiley of Northlane: “We create trends"

Cutting their teeth as UNFD darlings in the world of mathy, mosh-primed metalcore, Northlane started dipping their toes into the realm of a more electro-centric style with their third album, 2014’s Node. It wasn’t until their fifth, however – 2019’s career-defining Alien – that the Sydney trailblazers would go all the way, twining to their signature slate of tearing riffs and brutalised breakdowns a shimmery palette of thumping trance and visceral bass music. They were unfazed by the prospect of throwing off their fanbase, but they needn’t have worried to begin with: Alien was a monumental success.
