Rangers' Josh Jung: Makes season debut

Jung (foot) made his season debut for Double-A Frisco on Tuesday and went 1-for-4 against Corpus Christi. Jung served as the designated hitter for the Rough Riders and slotted in at third in the order. The activity marked the first time he's played in a regular-season game since the end of 2019. A top prospect within the organization, Jung had his 2021 season put on hold first by a delay in the minor-league season, then by a stress fracture in his right foot that required a screw to be inserted. Jung seemingly has a clear path to third base for the Rangers, but it's uncertain how last year's pandemic-impacted season and this year's injury delays that timeline.

‘Be water. Surrender the result.’: Rangers’ top prospect Josh Jung ready mentally, physically for minor league debut

LOS ANGELES — He had everything planned. Maybe not down to a specific date, but then again, maybe so. Josh Jung is nothing if not meticulous. By this time, Josh Jung would be readying to shed the bonds of the minors, to join the Rangers and move on to the next box on his checklist of career accomplishments. It would be good timing, too. The Rangers are nearly 20 games below .500 already. They certainly would welcome the infusion of elite, ready-for-the-majors talent. It’s ostensibly why they signed veterans Charlie Culberson and Brock Holt to play third this year, just to keep the position warm until it was time to look at the future.

Why 3B Josh Jung sits atop FanGraph’s Texas Rangers prospect rankings

With the Texas Rangers reeling off an 0-12 road skid, I felt now was a pretty appropriate time to switch gears and start checking back in with some of the team’s minor league talents. As much fun as someone like Adolis Garcia has been to watch as of late, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the Rangers are going to need a few extra pieces to appropriately contend in the future, which is why these players down in the farm system are so important at the moment.

First, Josh Jung. Now, Sam Huff. But Texas Rangers see opportunity for hurt prospects

The Texas Rangers are in the process of building for the future. The problem is they are having trouble getting the biggest pieces of the project in place. Sam Huff, who missed almost all of spring training with a strained left hamstring, is expected to miss two months after having arthroscopic surgery next week on his right knee.
