This past week the All-Rookie teams were announced with some surprising selections, particularly for Josh Giddey of the OKC Thunder. A trio of talents would automatically ke the first team with Rookie of the Year, Raptors Scottie Barnes, Cavaliers Evan Mobley, and Pistons Cade Cunningham in that mix. That triad were the top candidates for RoY voting.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are preparing for the 2022 NBA Draft, as the NBA Draft Lottery wrapped up this week seeing the organization leap up to the second overall pick. That is a huge difference from last year’s draft lottery that saw the Thunder plummet to six in a loaded 2021 NBA Draft class littered with names viewed at the time of the draft as can’t miss prospects like Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Jalen Green, and Jalen Suggs. Sam Presti hopes the 2022 class that features four selections in the top 34 can be as successful as the 2021 NBA Draft class that included Josh Giddey, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Aaron Wiggins, and Tre Mann.

Josh Giddey Named to NBA All-Rookie Second Team

OKLAHOMA CITY, May 18, 2022 – Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team for the 2021-22 season, it was announced today by the NBA. Giddey appeared in 54 games (all starts) this season and averaged 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists on 41.9 percent shooting in 31.5 minutes per game. He led all NBA rookies in assists per game, ranked second in rebounds and seventh in points.

Playing his last game on February 24, the hip complaint limited the 19-year-old to 54 appearances in his first regular season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
