Indians' Jordan Luplow: Begins rehab assignment

Luplow (ankle) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus on Friday. Luplow has been sidelined since May 27 with an ankle injury. He went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout in his first game with Columbus. The outfielder will likely need another couple of games with the farm team before he's ready to return to the big-league roster.

Luplow, 27, aggravated the ankle running out a ground ball May 17 in Los Angeles, but has appeared in several games since then. It’s the same ankle Luplow twisted March 4 in spring training and has been dealing with throughout the early part of the season.

Luplow underwent an MRI on Saturday which revealed no structural issues in his left ankle, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports. Luplow missed time in mid-May with a left ankle issue but had since returned to the lineup before being placed on the injured list Friday. While the MRI revealed good news for the outfielder, his return timeline won't become clear until he's reevaluated in a week.
