Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Joonas Korpisalo didn't get to end the 2021-22 NHL regular season as he wished, but he'll be running it back with the club this fall. Per the league's website, Korpisalo has put pen to paper on a one-year contract to stay with the Blue Jackets and avoid unrestricted free agency. While the NHL didn't disclose the financial terms of the deal, Sean Gentille of The Athletic notes it's worth $1.3 million.

Korpisalo drew into 22 games with Columbus in 2021-22, going 7-11-0 while posting a sub-par 4.15 GAA and .877 save percentage. The 28-year-old Finn, who underwent season-ending hip surgery in late March, is expected to serve as the Blue Jackets' No. 2 option in goal behind Elvis Merzlikins in 2022-23.

The Columbus Blue Jackets were thrashed by the Pittsburgh Penguins to the tune of 5-1 on Tuesday night and shared additional bad news for fans on Thursday. Per the NHL's website, Columbus goaltender Joonas Korpisalo will require surgery to repair a hip injury and, thus, will miss the remainder of the season and be sidelined for roughly six months. Korpisalo surrendered five goals on 37 shots in the defeat at Pittsburgh but apparently wasn't 100% for that matchup.
