Flames' Jonathan Huberdeau: Sets up teammate's milestone

Huberdeau notched an assist in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes. Huberdeau found Tyler Toffoli on a stretch pass, and the latter buried his 200th career goal on the breakaway. The assist was Huberdeau's fourth point in seven contests since he returned from a foot injury. Considering the Flames have scored just three times in the last three games, a team-wide decline in offense is understandable. Huberdeau is still struggling at the quarter mark with just 10 points (three goals, seven helpers), 34 shots on net, 21 hits and a plus-4 rating through his first 18 outings as a Flame.

Jonathan Huberdeau and Mikael Backlund just might work

I’ve been intrigued by the possibility of Mikael Backlund and Jonathan Huberdeau on a line together since the latter returned to game action last week. Initially I felt the idea had a decent chance of being a long-term fit. That feeling has only grown in the four games they’ve played together at five-on-five. As the Flames continue to figure out optimal forward lines, I think they might have found something.

Flames' Jonathan Huberdeau: Lights lamp in Monday's win

Huberdeau scored a goal on four shots, added two hits and went plus-2 in Monday's 5-2 win over the Flyers. Huberdeau opened the scoring just 4:43 into the game. He's picked up two goals and a helper in four outings since he returned from a foot injury that cost him three contests. While he's been listed on the third line, that trio (Huberdeau, Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman) led all Flames forwards in ice time Monday and continues to be a key two-way unit. Huberdeau is up to nine points, 31 shots on net, 19 hits and a plus-3 rating through 15 appearances.

Projected Lines: Jonathan Huberdeau Should Make His Return Tonight

It looks like the Flames will be welcoming Jonathan Huberdeau back to the lineup tonight as the 2nd Place LA Kings. Based on the lines from practice this past weekend Huberdeau will slot into the bottom six as Adam Ruzicka will remain on the top line with Elias Lindholm and Tyler Toffoli. The head scratcher of a move is placing Huberdeau on the third line and the continued use of Milan Lucic on the second line with Nazem Kadri and Andrew Mangiapane. This could just be a “getting Huberdeau back into the swing of things,” but the way Darryl Sutter has been running this group so far, who knows.

Huberdeau (foot) isn't expected to play Thursday versus the Bruins, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports. Steinberg added the Flames will use the same lineup from Tuesday's loss to the Devils. This will be Huberdeau's second straight contest on the shelf.
