Triway beats Jonathan Alder 2-1 to win OHSAA Division II softball championship

AKRON, Ohio — They will surely be playing "We Are the Champions" in Wooster Township tonight. Triway outlasted Jonathan Alder Saturday at Firestone Stadium to win the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II state softball championship. It was the first-ever victory for the Titans in the tournament, and just the second state title for the school in any sport.

Jonathan Alder fails to solve pitcher Carter Wachtel in state title game

Jonathan Alder's quest to win its first state softball title since 2019 came up a run short in the Division II championship game Saturday morning at Akron's Firestone Stadium. Wooster Triway, last year's state runner-up, struck first in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI double by Haylee Pruitt. Though the Pioneers evened the score in the top of the fifth, the Titans came back in the bottom half of that inning to pull ahead again, this time for good. The run scored on centerfielder Emily Yacapraro's RBI single made the difference as Triway won 2-1.

Throughout its Division II state semifinal matchup June 2 at Firestone Stadium in Akron, the Jonathan Alder softball team made Oak Harbor pay for its mistakes.
