Marlins' Jon Berti: Riding pine Saturday

Berti isn't starting Saturday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Berti is in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak in which he's hit .351 with a triple, two doubles, five runs, four RBI and nine stolen bases. However, he'll get a breather Saturday while Willians Astudillo starts at the hot corner and bats seventh.

Marlins' Jon Berti: Bad day on basepaths

Berti went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Mets. Despite reaching base three times, Berti didn't find his usual success as a runner. He got picked off at first base by Taijuan Walker in the first inning, then got thrown out trying to steal second in the ninth -- the first time Berti's been caught stealing since April 28, snapping a streak of 20 straight pilfers. The 32-year-old utility man is in no danger of losing playing time however, given his .318/.389/.400 slash line in 22 contests in June.

Marlins' Jon Berti: Steals two more bags

Berti went 2-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases and a run scored Thursday against the Rockies. Berti continued his torrid stolen base pace, and he now has 17 swipes across 20 starts in June. While his aggressiveness on the bases is the highlight, Berti has also hit .299 with 13 runs and 10 RBI in that span. With both Joey Wendle (hamstring) and Brian Anderson (back) still sidelined, Berti should remain a fixture in the lineup for the time being.

Marlins' Jon Berti: Adds another theft

Berti went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base during Tuesday's 9-8 win over the Rockies. The 32-year-old spent most of May on the COVID-19 injured list, and he has 16 stolen bases in as many attempts across 22 games since returning from the shelf. He's operated as Miami's primary third baseman with Joey Wendle (hamstring) and Brian Anderson (back) sidelined, but even once they return, Berti should continue to see regular action in a utility role given his .766 OPS and production on the basepaths.

Marlins' Jon Berti: Playing time opens up

Berti will start at shortstop and bat sixth in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Rockies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Though he'll be filling in for a resting Miguel Rojas in the front end of the twin bill, Berti could end up settling in as the Marlins' primary third baseman in the short term after the top two options on the depth chart -- Joey Wendle (hamstring) and Brian Anderson (back) were placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. WIllians Astudillo and Luke Williams are also candidates to pick up work at the hot corner, but Berti's ability to play all over the infield and outfield could be enough for him to hold down a near-everyday role until the Marlins reclaim some health. Berti had already started in three of the Marlins' previous four games and is getting on base at an excellent .391 clip this season while chipping in two home runs and four stolen bases across 64 plate appearances.

Berti was activated off the COVID-19 injured list Friday and will lead off and play second base against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Berti last played in a big-league game three weeks ago, but he's ready to go after going 1-for-3 in a pair of rehab games. He'll start in place of Jazz Chisholm, who's battling a hamstring injury, though Chisholm is expected to return at some point over the weekend and push Berti back to the bench.
