JOHN STINNER: Handling the federal stimulus funds

This is a big year for the Legislature as we decide how to appropriate the $1.04 billion in federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) distributed to Nebraska. My office has fielded a significant amount of questions about how this process will play out this session and who will receive those federal dollars. I’d like to lay out the process for the public and those interested in receiving ARPA dollars.

JOHN STINNER: State budget advances to final round

The past couple of weeks have been productive for the Appropriations Committee as it finalized budget recommendations to the Legislature. During that time, I focused my efforts on preparing for debate and listening to the discussion on issues important to Nebraskans. Last Tuesday those efforts paid off as we advanced the $9.7 million budget package to the final round of debate, called Final Reading.

A lot has happened since adjournment of the legislative session last year, especially with the worsening of the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of health and safety concerns, the Legislature has adjusted to new protocols in response.
