John Barry Smith, 59, of Gladwin, MI passed away April 30, 2022 at his home. He was born November 23, 1962 the son of Gaylond and Margaret (Leitner) Smith in Pontiac, MI. He was a graduate from Beaverton High School in Beaverton, MI in 1980. In 1982 John enlisted in the United States Army. After leaving the service John was a Glazier for Giroux Glass out of Las Vegas, Nevada.

STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State wrestling team has a pair of duals in Gallagher-Iba Arena this weekend, against Bucknell at 7 p.m. Friday and Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Sunday. OSU coach John Smith met with reporters Wednesday to discuss the fallout from the Bout at the Ballpark, AJ Ferrari missing the remainder of the season and where the team is at moving forward.
Oklahoma State wrestler A.J. Ferrari was ruled out for the remainder of the 2021-22 season. The defending 197-pound national champion was involved in a car accident with fellow athlete and cross-country All-American Isai Rodriguez in January. Although Ferrari was recovering, head coach John Smith said there was no chance Ferrari would return to the mat this season and the wrestler would undergo surgery.

With Oklahoma State wrestling team in a slump, coach John Smith wants to 'train through the weekend'
STILLWATER — Trying to reinvigorate his team after back-to-back home losses last weekend, Oklahoma State wrestling coach John Smith decided to reset his focus. With two duals set for this weekend — a 7 p.m. Friday meeting with No. 23 South Dakota State at Gallagher-Iba Arena and a 2 p.m. Sunday match at Missouri — Smith started the reset by altering the team’s practice schedule.
