Hurricanes prospect Joey Keane signs in the KHL for 2022-23

Hurricanes defenseman Joey Keane has signed a one-year deal with Spartak Moscow. Keane will be leaving the Chicago Wolves to continue his development in the Russian capital. Leaving as a Calder Cup winner, the Hurricanes will retain the rights of the Chicago native until they trade them, he comes back to North America, or until Joey Keane turns 27 years old. Remembering he is only 23 now, this is okay for the near future.

Hurricanes' Joey Keane: Inks deal with KHL club

Keane penned a one-year deal with KHL team Spartak Moscow on Monday. Keane was given a qualifying offer by the Hurricanes, so the team will retain his NHL rights even as he heads overseas. The defenseman registered seven goals and 26 helpers in 62 regular-season contests for AHL Chicago last season, adding another 12 points in 18 playoff games. Despite his offensive upside, Keane was only able to break into the NHL roster for one game this past year.

Hurricanes' Joey Keane: Back to AHL

Keane was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Monday, per CBS Sports. Keane recorded two PIM in 13:38 of ice time during his season debut against Vancouver on Saturday. The 22-year-old will head back to the minors, where he has 15 points in 29 games this season.

Hurricanes' Joey Keane: Playing Saturday

Keane has been added to the active roster and will play Saturday versus Vancouver, Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal reports. Keane will skate on the Hurricanes' third pairing during Saturday's contest. The 22-year-old American has picked up 15 points through 29 AHL appearances this season.
