My View: Freeport Mayor Jodi Miller's first term should be celebrated

I read with disappointment Pat Leitzen Fye’s column last week. Both Pat and I have put ourselves forward in the past in an attempt to be the first female mayor of Freeport. While Pat and I may approach our political views from different perspectives, I believe we both felt that Freeport’s first female mayor would be a sign of progress, encourage young women to pursue their dreams and interests, and break down barriers, all of which led us to throw our hats in the mayoral ring in past elections.
