Ecuadorean attacker Joao Rojas has completed a deal to New York City FC, and the deal represents a rather significant investment from his new club in the young talent. The 23-year old Rojas, a creative player who can slot-in any three of the attacking midfield roles, is currently on the books at Ecuadorean powerhouse Emelec. A source close to the situation tells FanSided’s MLS Multiplex that the transfer fee for the player is $2.8 million.
After a relatively quiet offseason on the transfer market, New York City FC are reportedly set to make some noise with the addition of Ecuadorian winger Joao Rojas. NYCFC, whose biggest moves in the offseason have been out outbound with the departures of midfielder Alex Ring to Austin FC, left back Ronald Matarrita to FC Cincinnati — acquiring nearly $2 million in allocation money from both trades — and winger Gary Mackay-Steven returning to Scotland, signing with Hearts, are signing Rojas from Ecuador’s Club Sport Emelec, according to journalist Reinaldo Romero.
