Browns' Dee, Jimmy Haslam Say They 'Didn’t Know What We Were Doing' When Bought Team

Dee and Jimmy Haslam faced a steep learning curve when they purchased the Cleveland Browns from Randy Lerner in 2012. "We did a lousy job at first," Jimmy said, per the Akron Beacon Journal's Nate Ulrich. "I mean, let's just face it. It's probably fair to say we didn't know what we were doing. In some ways, I go, 'Ten years, we haven't won very many games.' So I look at it that way."

Jimmy Haslam: Browns ownership didn’t say of Baker Mayfield that they needed an ‘adult’ at quarterback

BEREA, Ohio — Jimmy Haslam said it’s false that Browns ownership made a disparaging remark about Baker Mayfield’s maturity. “Contrary to what is out there in the press, we think highly of Baker and did not get down on him,’’ Haslam said Friday during a Zoom conference following Deshaun Watson’s introductory press conference at the Browns facility. I know there is [an anonymous Browns] statement [reported by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen] that we needed ‘an adult in the room,’ and Baker felt that came from ownership, but that’s not true. Baker gave it everything he had while he was here. Nobody can question his effort this past year, and nobody can question the four years he gave to the City of Cleveland. We wish him nothing but the best of luck.”
