There was a lot of fun in Rome in June and July this past minor-league season. That was in large part thanks to the offensive onslaught from Atlanta Braves’ outfield prospect Jesse Franklin V, who went on a home-run hitting frenzy. Here’s a look back at the rise of Franklin from 2020 MLB draft pick to top-10 Braves’ prospect.

Jesse Franklin “Frank” Foglesong, Jr., age 77, of Quincy, formerly of Dallas City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021 at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy. Frank was born on Feb. 9, 1944 to Jesse Franklin Foglesong, Sr. and Kathryn Rebecca (Zern) Foglesong. Frank served his country June 1965 to June 1967. Upon returning home from his service, Frank worked at Winegard in Burlington, Iowa.

It was a lighter slate of games on Friday evening for Braves minor league affiliates with Mississippi getting rained out. However, what games that DID happen went pretty well as the Braves’ farm squads went 2-1 with strong performances from Johan Camargo, Yolmer Sanchez, and Jesse Franklin V (much to Brad’s enjoyment). Lets get into the games.

It was certainly an eventful day down in the Braves’ minor league system especially if you like to see power. Sunday saw Jesse Franklin have another monster game while he was joined in the homer column by William Contreras, Drew Lugbauer, and Travis Demeritte. Gwinnett Stripers 7, Norfolk Tides 1.

SP, K. Wright – (W), 7 IP, H, BB, 6 K. It doesn’t get much better for Gwinnett in terms of team-wide performance for a single day’s work. The Stripers outscored the Sounds 13-2 in its doubleheader, thanks to a much-needed breakout by the offense and a pair of incredible starts by both Touki Toussaint and Kyle Wright.

The Braves system had a big day on the July 4th with three hit games from the red hot Jesse Franklin and Drew Waters, plus a very strong start from the recently promoted Bryce Elder. If that’s not enough, Shea Langeliers also had a multi-hit game on Sunday. Let’s get to it!

It was far from a successful day in the minor leagues as the Atlanta Braves affiliates only went 1-4, but there was plenty of action from the prospects at every level. Drew Waters crushed a home run for Gwinnett, and has begun hitting the ball hard again the past couple of nights. Jesse Franklin stayed red hot with yet another home run, and Michael Harris continues to plug away giving Rome RBIs in both games of their double header.

It was of pretty critical importance that the Braves have a good week this week if they wanted to keep their chances of making the playoffs alive with such a soft slate of games. After taking two out of three from the Mets earlier in the week, they seemed to be on track to do just that.

Before Gwinnett’s game yesterday, the big news was the major league call-up of prospect pitcher Kyle Muller, who wound up making his debut for the Braves versus the Red Sox on Wednesday night. According to Stripers media relations manager Dave Lezotte, Muller is the 102nd Gwinnett player to pitch in the majors and the first this season.

The minor league system had a great day all around with all four affiliates picking up win, although it was somewhat light on big prospect performances. Jesse Franklin stayed blazing hot for Rome with a couple of hits and Jared Shuster had a strong start. Willie Carter led a big offensive day for Augusta.
