Jerry Demings: Protest limits will protect neighborhood tranquility | Commentary

“I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.”. Author James Baldwin sums up the beauty of living in this country. We can openly criticize our government and policies without fear. That is a freedom, among many others, outlined in the Bill of Rights. As Americans, we have First Amendment protections to peacefully assemble and protest. As a former law enforcement officer, I know this firsthand. I was often on the front lines, protecting our residents’ right to assemble and exercise free speech. It is why our democratic republic continues to thrive.
