Jelena Mrdjenovich had an exciting fight in December against Paola Torres in what was thought to lead up to a mega-fight with Amanda Serrano. Things fell through and both sides have their own version of what happened. In the end, Mrdjenovich was named WBC Champion Emeritus, and Serrano was elevated to full champion.

On top of that her longtime trainer had serious medical issues in which we do not need to go any further into. Things were at the point where Mrdjenovich was considering hanging up her gloves and calling it a career.

WBC orders Julio Cesar Martinez vs McWilliams Arroyo, Jelena Mrdjenovich vs Amanda Serrano

In addition to ordering former super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez to face serial domestic abuser Marcus Browne for their interim light heavyweight title, the WBC decreed that flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez and women’s featherweight champion Jelena Mrdjenovich face mandatory challenger McWilliams Arroyo and interim champion Amanda Serrano, respectively.
