R.I.P. Steven Earl Gaines (LYNYRD SKYNYRD): September 14th, 1949 - October 20th 1977. LYNYRD SKYNYRD guitarist/vocalist Steven Earl Gaines would’ve turned 72 today (September 14th, 1949). He died in the tragic October 1977 airplane crash which also killed lead vocalist/founding member Ronnie Van Zant, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines (Steve's older sister), assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray.

Jeff Loomis Starts Work on the New Arch Enemy Album “Very Soon”

Work has commenced on the eleventh studio album from Swedish melodeath titans Arch Enemy. This according to guitarist Jeff Loomis, who tells the Riffhard podcast that he will begin work on the album “very soon.” Although he also says he doesn’t know when the band’s next offering will be released, he does note that they have a tour of Europe tentatively scheduled for the fall, which would suggest the band had planned to put something out around then.
