Jay Thomas Spoonhour (born October 14, 1970) is an American basketball coach. He is the head men's basketball coach at Eastern Illinois University, a position he had held since 2012. Previously, Spoonhour served as the head coach at Moberly Area Community College in Missouri. He has also held several assistant jobs, including at Saint Louis, UNLV, Missouri and Texas-San Antonio. He served as the interim head coach of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels in 2004 after his father, Charlie Spoonhour, resigned mid-season.

CHARLESTON — Eastern Illinois University announced on Thursday that men’s basketball head coach Jay Spoonhour’s contract will not be renewed. The Panthers wrapped up the 2020-21 season last weekend at home posting a 9-18 record, 6-10 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Panthers' roster was hit hard by COVID-19 precaution rules this season and had to play several games with just seven available players.

Eastern Illinois parts ways with head coach Jay Spoonhour

Eastern Illinois announced Thursday that it will not renew head coach Jay Spoonhour's contract, ending his nine-year tenure with the program. Spoonhour finished with a 119-157 record with the Panthers, including a 66-88 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference. This season, Eastern Illinois went 9-18 overall and 6-10 in the OVC.
