Braves bring back Jason Kipnis

According to David O’Brien of The Athletic, the Braves are bringing back veteran infielder Jason Kipnis on a minor-league deal. This might come as puzzling to some, given he was already on a minor-league pact before the Braves released him. However, had they retained Kipnis, it would have cost them a 100k retention bonus.

Pablo Sandoval makes roster, Jason Kipnis released

Sandoval has been arguably the Braves’ best bat during the spring, racking up 15 hits in just 35 at-bats. His veteran presence will be a welcome presence on Atlanta’s bench. Kipnis had a decent spring, but he was simply beaten out at the end of the day. Surely, another competing team will give him an opportunity.

Jason Kipnis: Released by Atlanta

Kipnis was released by Atlanta on Saturday. Kipnis was unable to secure a spot on Atlanta's Opening Day roster after he hit .241 with one home run and three RBI in 12 spring games this year. He'll likely have to settle for a depth role if he's able to secure a spot on another roster in 2021.

Braves: Jason Kipnis is trending towards a big league utility role in 2021

I’ll admit, when I saw that the Braves had signed soon-to-be 34-year-old Jason Kipnis to a minor league contract back on February 15th, I was as skeptical as you could be about his potential for the 2021 season. For the last four years, Kipnis hasn’t exactly done much with the bat, and given how long it’s been since his All-Star days, I figured it was doubtful Atlanta would get much from him this spring.

Braves: Jason Kipnis and Atlanta agree to a deal

Atlanta has added some much needed infield depth. I listed some of the best bench options available left on the market, and Kipnis made the list. From my profile on him:. Kipnis’ days of being one of the elite second basemen in baseball are certainly behind him, but I still think he’s a great leader that provides a lot more than what you see on the stat sheet. Injuries have undoubtedly caused a lot of his decline, but I’m sure he has still got a few clutch bombs left in him.
