James Michael “Mike” Hicks, age 66 of LaFollette went home to be with the Lord on Friday March 18, 2022. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Dorothy Ann Milhollin Caldwell, age 77, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at a local hospital. Mrs. Caldwell was born in Rome, Georgia on August 5, 1944, daughter of the late Max Milhollin and the late Evelyn Harmon Milhollin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Leon Caldwell, Jr., and by a grandson, Cody Caldwell. Mrs. Caldwell was a homemaker, a dedicated Christian, and a faithful member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church where she was active in her Sunday School class and other church activities. She loved gardening, flowers, yardwork, trips to the beach, and anything that had to do with nature, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mike was born in Kermit, Texas on August 29, 1952 to Marvin Ralph Hanks and Melba Dean Gray. He had first lived in Hemphill in his early 20's before moving to Katy, Texas where he was a police officer in Houston for 38 years. He spent many weekends and vacations in Sabine County until he became a full time resident in 2014.

Dr. James Michael “Mike” Pemberton passed away on 1-13-22 in Rome, GA at the age of 79. He was born in Nashville, TN in 1942 to the late Mary Helen Routon Pemberton and George Thomas Pemberton. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Anne Elizabeth Pemberton. Mike grew up in the Belle Mead area of Nashville and graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1960. He received his BA in English from the University of the South (Sewanee, TN) in 1964. He met his wife, Nancy, at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville where they both received their MAs in English together in 1966. Mike also received the MLS (Masters in Library Science) and the Ph.D. (English) at UTK.

James Michael “Mike” Whaley, 76

James Michael “Mike” Whaley passed away at age 76 on Jan. 3, 2022, at his home surrounded by his wife Diana, son Chad and his wife Jennifer, and family. Mike was born in Monett, Mo., to Anna Mae and Jack Whaley and came to Idaho at the age of 2. He graduated from Wallace High School in 1963 and joined the army with his future brother-in-law on the buddy system. He did his basic training at Fort Hood, then moved to Fort Bragg. After basic training, he was sent to Nha Trang, Vietnam with the 14th Engineer Battalion in 1965.
