Stevenson says he’ll “Massacre” Oscar Valdez and Jamel Herring

By Jeff Aronow: Shakur Stevenson believes he’ll “massacre” super featherweight champions Oscar Valdez and Jamel Herring when he challenges them for their titles. Stevenson (16-0, 8 KOs) put himself in a position to challenge Herring (23-2, 11 KOs) for his WBO 130-lb title by winning the interim WBO title last Saturday with a one-sided 12 round unanimous decision against Jeremiah Nakathilia (21-2, 17 KOs) at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Shakur Stevenson: ‘Jamel Herring can’t beat me. He knows what it is’

Shakur Stevenson unanimously outscores Nakathila and looks for greater challenges. SHAKUR STEVENSON defeated Jeremia Nakathila with a unanimous points decision on Top Rank’s Saturday (June 12) show at the Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas. But he wanted more. He wanted to send a message to the super-featherweight champions he’s been chasing. Even though no one had stopped Nakathila before, a knockout had been on the young American’s mind.

Jamel Herring Plans To Keep WBO Title, Eyes Stevenson-Nakathila Winner For Mandatory Defense

There remains unfinished business at junior lightweight for Jamel Herring. BoxingScene.com has learned that the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) 130-pound titlist intends to keep his title and commit to facing the winner of the June 12 interim title fight between Shakur Stevenson and Namibia’s Jeremiah Nakathila (21-1, 17KOs). The latter part was a condition placed by the WBO in permitting Herring (23-2, 11KOs) to move forward with his oft-postponed optional defense versus Carl Frampton earlier this month.

Jamel Herring focused on Oscar Valdez unification fight, possibly moving to 135

Jamel Herring has the WBO junior lightweight title for now, but there seems a good chance he may give it up soon. Shakur Stevenson and Jeremiah Nakathila will fight on June 12, with the winner guaranteed a shot at Herring’s title, and Herring has to sign an agreement for that, or he’s going to be stripped. At the moment, Stevenson-Nakathila is for the interim title, but will be for the full belt if Herring doesn’t agree to face the winner.

Carl Frampton Goes Out On His Shield In Farewell Fight Against Jamel Herring

If ever there was a fighter who deserved a better ending than they got, it was Carl Frampton. Deserve is a tricky word within boxing, a sport which can present as a meritocracy but in actuality is controlled by the whimsies of a select few. Every inch in boxing is indeed earned, but sometimes a few more can be tacked on or taken away by the powers-that-be.
