Chicago White Sox: 2022 player grade for Jake Burger

The Chicago White Sox had some bright spots on their gloomy 81-81 season that would make any fan smile. One of them is the success that Jake Burger had with the team in the early going of the season. We know he is a talented hitter and that was on display this past year.

Grading the White Sox: Jake Burger

At midseason, the SSS staff graded the 46-46 White Sox, from the head of the class Dylan Cease down to Dallas Keuchel. We invented a WARsss metric that could very well be just a cute way to trot out our special site grades — but really for all you know could be the product of years of research in a stats lab.

Should I Stay or Should I Go: Jake Burger

He should stay Andrew Vaughn led the 2022 White Sox with a pathetic 17 home runs, and as the team needs more power Burger provides it aplenty, with a .458 slugging percentage being third on the team in 2022, behind only Elvis Andrus and Eloy Jiménez. Entering his age-27 season, Burger still has plenty of potential moving forward, and with one option remaining the front office will have some flexibility with how they employ him.

White Sox's Jake Burger: Beginning rehab assignment

Burger (hand) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Burger was expected to begin a rehab assignment in mid-July but was delayed by a week and a half due to an illness. The 26-year-old has been on the injured list since July 6 due to a bone bruise in his right hand, but he seems to be on track to be activated this weekend or sometime next week.

White Sox 3B Jake Burger to Begin Rehab Assignment Tonight

The righty slugger last appeared in a White Sox game on July 5. The next day, Burger landed on the 10-day injured list due to a bruised right hand. That ailment has caused him to miss the team’s last 10 games during a crucial stretch. In 51 games this...

White Sox's Jake Burger: Rehab delayed by illness

Burger (hand) won't begin his rehab assignment Friday as previously reported, as he's come down with an illness, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. Burger was supposed to start working his way back from a bruised right hand with Triple-A Charlotte but will wait at least one more day to do so. It already seemed likely that the White Sox could wait to activate him until the beginning of the second half, so this delay may not actually affect his ultimate return date unless the illness winds up costing him more than a day or two.

White Sox activate Eloy Jimenez, place Jake Burger on injured list

(670 The Score) The White Sox on Wednesday reinstated outfielder Eloy Jimenez from his rehab assignment amid a series of roster moves. Jimenez has been sidelined since suffering a torn hamstring tendon behind his right knee back on April 23. Jimenez hit .246 with two homers and seven RBIs in 17 games in a rehab stint with Triple-A Charlotte recently. He was hitting .222 with one homer, seven RBIs and a .590 OPS in 11 games for the White Sox before being hurt early in the season.

White Sox's Jake Burger: Lands on 10-day IL

Burger was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a bone bruise in his right hand. Burger had lost out on playing time recently following Yoan Moncada's return from the IL, and he's now dealing with a hand injury that will force him to miss at least a week and a half. It's not yet clear when the 26-year-old will return to action, but he'll be eligible to be activated shortly before the All-Star break. Since he hadn't started in any of the eight games prior to landing on the injured list, he isn't guaranteed a spot on the active roster once he's deemed fully healthy.

White Sox's Jake Burger: Sitting again for Sunday's game

Burger is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. He hasn't logged an official at-bat since June 26 -- this marks his sixth straight absence from the starting lineup. Yoan Moncada's return from the injured list has made Burger an afterthought, even after the 26-year-old Burger posted an .887 OPS in the month of June.

White Sox's Jake Burger: Sits again Tuesday

Burger is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Angels. He was also out of the lineup Monday, so that makes it two days in a row that Burger has sat against a right-handed pitcher. The lefty-hitting Gavin Sheets drew the start both days, so while Burger has been productive this season, he may be on the short side of a platoon for now.

White Sox's Jake Burger: Day off Monday

Burger isn't starting Monday's game against the Angels. Burger started in the last five games and went 4-for-19 with a triple, two RBI, a run and five strikeouts. Josh Harrison will shift to the hot corner while Lenyn Sosa starts at second base Monday.

The promise of Jake Burger, seen in a single AB

A little while ago my friend Esteban Rivera over at Pinstripe Alley began a recurring article series titled “At Bat of the Week.” While I may or may not revisit this on a weekly basis, I have to start by thanking him for the idea, and insisting that I give it a shot. We’re working our way up here at South Side Sox in spite of the puny and highly neurotic (come on, you know it’s true) nature of the White Sox fanbase, but who am I to ignore a suggestion from the top baseball site on SB Nation? It is, at the very least, a way to get something fun out of this expletive of a season.

White Sox's Jake Burger: Tallies first triple

Burger went 2-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Burger led off the seventh inning with a triple and came around to score on a single by Reese McGuire. With Yoan Moncada (hamstring) back on the injured list, Burger has a clear path to playing time at third base. He has an impressive .790 OPS across 167 plate appearances on the season.

White Sox's Jake Burger: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Burger will sit Tuesday against Toronto. Burger should find himself in the lineup on a regular basis until Yoan Moncada returns from a hamstring injury, but he won't play every day. Danny Mendick will be the third baseman Tuesday, while Andrew Vaughn serves as the designated hitter.

White Sox's Jake Burger: Returns to lineup

Burger (hand) will bat fifth and serve as the designated hitter Friday against the Astros. Burger exited Monday's game against the Tigers after getting hit in the hand by a pitch. He avoided anything worse than a bruise but nevertheless needed three days to heal before returning to action. His return will be a boost to the White Sox's lineup, as he's hit .273/.322/.508 with eight homers in 38 games this season.
CBS Sports

White Sox's Jake Burger: Hitless in return

Burger went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Friday against the Astros. Burger missed two games due to a hand contusion but returned to the lineup to hit fifth while serving as the designated hitter. Prior to going down, Burger was in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, during which he collected four home runs, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored. He should have a secure spot in the lineup, particularly with Yoan Moncada battling a hamstring injury.
