Way back in 2013, Mattel had supposedly found a director to make a movie based on the iconic brand of toy cars. But that movie didn’t happen. In 2016, Justin Lin was supposed to make a Hot Wheels movie. He was a great choice; the guy directed a whole bunch of Fast & Furious movies. Did he make a Hot Wheels film? I sure don’t remember one!

April 27 (UPI) -- Danielle Deadwyler will star in J.J. Abrams' new series Demimonde. Deadline reported Tuesday that Deadwyler, 39, will play the lead role in the sci-fi drama. Demimonde hails from Abrams' Bad Robot Productions, Warner Bros. Television and HBO. The series is written, executive produced and directed by Abrams.

We’re now at the age where several video game and toy properties are getting film adaptations as Hollywood studios are seeking more valuable IPs that can be turned into giant franchises. Whether they have been successful or not so far, there is no denying that they all have the potential to have the populist appeal given their recognition as brands. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is partnering up with Warner Bros. for a live-action Hot Wheels movie, yet another sign that Mattel is getting quite serious about the filmmaking business. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot has partnered with Mattel Films and Warner Bros. to produce a live-action movie adaptation of the popular toy brand Hot Wheels, Variety reports. A press release from Mattel and Warner Bros. didn’t delve into plot details since the adaptation is presumably in its early stages. It does, however, mention the project will “showcase some of the world’s hottest and sleekest cars, monster trucks and motorcycles.”

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot will produce a live-action movie based on Mattel Inc.’s Hot Wheels toy cars. The deal signed by El Segundo, California-based Mattel (Nasdaq: MAT) and Warner Bros Pictures will “bring to life this beloved, multi-generational franchise and showcase some of the world’s hottest and sleekest cars, monster trucks and motorcycles,” the companies said.
