Irene Morgan and Bruce Boynton aren’t the most well-known names of the civil rights era, but their spontaneous decisions to defy Jim Crow in the 1940s and 50s resonated long after their arrests. Before the age of 30, they each became plaintiffs in landmark U.S. Supreme Court cases that set the stage for the Freedom Rides of 1961 and the eventual erosion of legal segregation.
