First Look at Hyeri in KBS Sageuk Thinking of the Moon When the Flowers Bloom Opposite Yoo Seung Ho

It’s clear idol-actress Hyeri is quite beloved and popular within K-ent, she is always friendly and sincere whenever I see her doing variety and interviews and so many other stars speak highly of her. So it’s no surprise that she got a beverage truck sent to her on the set of KBS sageuk Thinking of the Moon When the Flowers Bloom. It’s scheduled for airing towards the end of 2021 and stars her, Yoo Seung Ho, Byun Woo Seok, and Kang Mina, and while it could be a case of one strong actor leading a trio of pretty faces I’m getting less worried after watching Hyeri in My Roommate is a Gumiho. If she plays a character she connects with and taps into her expressiveness then it could work because she’s really good at generating chemistry. It was clear in Answer Me 1988 as she has chemistry with everyone in that drama and now she’s doing the same in Gumiho. She looks cute in Joseon garb and I’m glad she’s playing a downtrodden female lead at the start of the drama rather than an upright lady type.

Long Time Couple Hyeri and Ryu Jun Yeol Spotted on Date After K-netizens Speculate on Their Breakup Because She Has Great Chemistry and is Super Friendly with Jang Ki Yong in New Drama

Man, if K-netizens collectively deserve to be punched in the face this instance would merit it. After My Roommate is a Gumiho premiered last week on tvN, K-netizens started to speculate and discuss that female lead Hyeri and her former Answer Me 1988 costar and real life boyfriend Ryu Jun Yeol must’ve broken up because she’s too friendly with Roomie male lead Jang Ki Yong. Hyeri and Ryu Jun Yeol have been dating for nearly 5 years and are a super low key couple, they don’t flaunt their relationship but remain professional and considerate in how hard they work in their professional matters. That Hyeri is promoting Roomie with such enthusiasm and has great onscreen chemistry and offscreen friendly camaraderie with Jang Ki Yong and is used against her just roils my stomach. If she and Ryu Jun Yeol have/will break up, then so be it. But stop with the speculation and negativity without any basis other than “two costars enjoy working together”. And for that matter, recently Ryu Jun Yeol and Hyeri were spotted on a date in Seoul so that puts the kibosh on the breakup rumor. Grrrr, I’m so protective of my Jungdog and Deok Sun babies even if I’m a billion percent Team Taek in the drama lol.

Go Kyung Pyo to Guest Star in tvN Drama My Roommate is a Gumiho Reuniting with Hyeri After Answer Me 1988

As if I need another reason to love newly arrived tvN fantasy romance My Roommate is a Gumiho, a guest star is arriving that adds another layer of cuteness plus nostalgia. Sadly Ryu Jun Yeol is filming a drama and Park Bo Gum is off in the army, but another Answer Me 1988 male lead is showing up to reunite with Hyeri in a cameo role. It’ll be Sung Sun Woo himself Go Kyung Pyo who will be doing a guest starring turn in Roomie. Not sure what he’s playing but I’m sure it’ll just be a nice treat. I don’t think he’ll be another male gumiho as Woo Yeo mentioned he was unique as all gumihos are women.

Jang Ki Yong and Hyeri are Opposites Attract in Lowkey Adorable Fantasy Rom-com My Roommate is a Gumiho

I’ll preface this by saying that newly arrived tvN Wed-Thurs romance fantasy drama My Roommate is a Gumiho is not a quality drama in any respect. Not writing, directing, or acting, and yet it’s my newest drama crack. Like, I love it! It’s so flimsy, low-budget, and ridiculously watchable. The first episode actually got high premiere ratings of 5.282% but clearly K-drama watchers understand this one isn’t winning any awards and episode 2 dropped a whole percent to 4.279%. So why do I like it? Leads Jang Ki Yong and Hyeri have chemistry, not tear your clothes off sexual chemistry but that true love calling sweet chemistry that K-drama casting agents dream about. They are so complementary in both character personality and acting style, he’s the underacting gumiho and she’s the overacting college student. I love that the drama gets all the misunderstandings (he’s going to eat her!) and broad physical comedy (toilet jokes!) out of the way because all I need is these two hanging out and getting to know each other. It also helps that she needs him frequently not because she’s useless but because that darn gumiho bead runs havoc on her physical state. All the side characters are thus far wasted and good for exposition and plot development but there is potential and I hope the drama utilizes it. I also get a kick out of how low budget this drama looks, when Woo Yeo turned into a gumiho he was like 20 feet tall and the grade school special effects had me cackling. I’m sure the source material webtoon borrowed copiously from plenty of dramas and stories out there on supernatural being + human romance but it works in this go-around because I like how simple it feels to see two chemistry-laden leads spark and spend time together.
