BRISTOL — For a few hours Tuesday, Bristol put on a Facebook Live version of Geraldo Rivera's opening of Al Capone's secret vault on live TV in 1986. In Bristol's case, the mystery involved a locked safe that had been forgotten for decades in the basement of the old Oliver School on State Street. For as far back as anyone remembers, the combination has been lost, and no one had any idea what was inside.

Eastern Michigan University students perform Muriel Rukeyser's musical 'Houdini'

Actors from EMU's Theater Program will bring words to life in this staged reading of Houdini at the Sponberg Theater free of charge. EMU Theater Professor Lee Stille is the director of the production. The Houdini play was graciously funded by Michigan Humanities, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, EMU's Center for Jewish Studies, the English Department, and YpsiWrites.

Staged readings of "Houdini" musical to bring awareness to EMU's Muriel Rukeyser Living Archive

A series of staged readings of the musical "Houdini" will aim to get Southeast Michigan residents interested in the play's author, the under-recognized poet Muriel Rukeyser; and the Rukeyser Living Archive housed at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). The shows will be directed by EMU Theatre professor Lee Stille and performed by EMU theater students.

February 1, 1903: The new Sunset railroad depot opened on Jan. 31, 1903. “In the presence of a distinguished assemblage of railway officials, officers of the army and representative citizens, the magnificent passenger depot of the Southern Pacific Railway was formally opened Saturday noon. The exercises were very simple. A few speeches were made, light lunches and refreshments were served and an orchestra filled the hall with melody,” reported the Express-News.
