Jorge Masvidal: ‘I hope that as long as I compete, Herb Dean never referees a fight of mine’

Jorge Masvidal has had enough of Herb Dean officiating his bouts. The two-time Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight title challenger and one-time Baddest Motherf—ker (BMF) titlist last fought against his bitter rival, Colby Covington, in a March 2022 showdown. Masvidal dropped a lopsided unanimous decision to “Chaos” (watch highlights) and suffered perhaps more of a defeat mentally than physically. However, he has now noted that he’ll be undergoing surgery after some of the fouls he believes Covington got away with thanks to Dean.

Dana White criticizes Herb Dean after controversial stoppage at UFC Vegas 42

UFC President Dana White was not pleased by veteran referee Herb Dean’s performance in the UFC Vegas 42 co-main event. Looking back at the ref, de Lima appeared to apologize to Dean, who clarified that he had stopped the bout just 32 seconds into the opening round.

Thankfully, Dean was able to rush in and stop the fight, but not after Ngannou landed a huge hammer fist on his downed opponent that knocked him out cold. Some fans were critical of Dean as they believed that he way late in stopping the fight, but as far as Ngannou goes — the man who knows better than anyone — Dean did a good job.

The two haven’t gotten along since their Fight Island incident last summer where Hardy was seen yelling to stop the fight when Francisco Trinaldo was landing heavy punches against Jai Herbert.

John McCarthy shares his thoughts on the stoppages from referee Herb Dean at UFC Vegas 19

John McCarthy has assessed Herb Dean’s performance at UFC Vegas 19. In the main event of the card, Dean was the third man in the Octagon for Derrick Lewis vs Curtis Blaydes. In the early going, Dean was doing a solid job monitoring the eye pokes. Yet, as Lewis landed the KO punch, “The Black Beast” followed it up with some more shots. He said it was Herb Dean’s fault, but John McCarthy believes Dean did everything he was supposed to.
