U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar presents Mission CISD a check

Mission, Texas – Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) received $76.4 million that will be used for developing and implementing procedures related to the health crisis. U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar presented the check to Dr. Carol G. Perez (superintendent) and Ms. Minnie Rodgers (board president) on March 30th at the Center for Education and Economic Development. The funds were allocated from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar of Laredo and U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia held a news conference Thursday following a tour of the U.S.-Mexico border. The Democratic lawmakers took a helicopter and boat tour of the border with Customs and Border Protection and visited the World Trade Bridge to meet with local and federal officials to discuss cross-border international trade.

Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas was back in the headlines this week over border security and immigration – issues that have landed him in the political spotlight over the years. The longtime Democratic congressman from the border city of Laredo, Texas – a focal point of the influx of migrants at the nation’s southern border – released photos from a U.S. Customs and Border Protection temporary overflow facility, which showed crowded and makeshift conditions as family detention centers and shelters for children quickly filled up.

At the time, critics called some of the facilities cages. President Biden came into office promising a more humane approach. But that promise is being tested as his administration faces a surge in the number of unaccompanied children arriving at the border. It's struggling to find adequate housing for them while their status is being evaluated.

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar (TX-28) are expected to take a tour of the detention facility, according to a press release, for migrant children in Carrizo Springs before receiving from border patrol officials Friday.
