Greg Fischer

Greg Fischer (born January 14, 1958) is an American businessman and entrepreneur who is the 50th Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky. In November 2010, Fischer, a Democrat, was elected Mayor of Louisville in a tight race against Metro Council member Hal Heiner. He was resoundingly re-elected in 2014, and defeated Republican Metro Council member Angela Leet (61 percent to 37 percent) in 2018 for a third term. In 2019, Fischer was elected vice president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and will serve as president of USCM in 2020. He ran in the Kentucky Democratic primary for the United States Senate in 2008, where he finished second and received over 209,000 votes (34 percent) among seven candidates. Since Fischer took office as Mayor in 2011, Louisville Metro has gained 80,000 new jobs and 2,700 new businesses. In a 2016 Politico survey, Fischer was recognized as the most innovative mayor in the U.S. The city has also attracted $14 billion in capital investment since the Great Recession, including a renovated and expanded convention center, dozens of new hotels and multiple tourist attractions centered around bourbon.
