Sacha Baron Cohen, Greg Daniels, Mike Judge and Michael Koman Developing Animated Series For HBO & Cartoon Network

Sacha Baron Cohen, Greg Daniels and Mike Judge are set to release an animated comedy for HBO Max and Cartoon Network. The network is hoping younger audiences take a liking to Chelm: The Smartest Place on Earth. Michael Koman of Nathan For You fame is handling the writing duties on this special. Chelm will riff on classic folktales in the eponymous town according to The Hollywood Reporter. There's absurdist humor that's a trademark of the entire creative team's output. Judge and Daniels have climbed back into the animation ring in a big way this year. Their Bandera Entertainment imprint is hard at work on a King of the Hill revival and over at Netflix they're plotting an Exploding Kittens show. So many projects are in the works, it feels like its hard to keep track of all of it. But, this is a fun partnership for Cartoon Network and HBO Max. The animated output of the streamer has only increased in the time since the first bit of the pandemic and doesn't look to be slowing down.

"I remember being worried for him...I didn't think it could be done," Conan told The Office UK co-creator Stephen Merchant on his podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend. Daniels, who created the NBC version of The Office, was writing partners with Conan at SNL after meeting at Harvard. Merchant responded: "Thank god he didn't listen to you." Merchant recalls telling fellow co-creator Ricky Gervais that they needed an American to do the adaptation after seeing British writers fail in adapting their own series' for American audiences. That's how, after a search, they found Daniels.

Greg Daniels On ‘Upload,’ ‘Space Force,’ And Rediscovering His Want To Do TV Comedy

Time passes, new shows rise and fall, but the collection of shows that have, to differing degrees, benefited from Greg Daniels’ direct influence — SNL, The Simpsons, The Office, Parks And Rec, King Of The Hill — might outlast us all. It’s why I joked with Daniels in our recent chat, calling him the Omega Man of pop culture. And while he demurred and landed on “luck,” it’s impossible to deny the skill. Daniels knows good TV, but most importantly, as he tells us, he knows that “a good TV series gets more and more interesting, the more you’re into it.”

Greg Daniels on How the Metaverse Influenced ‘Upload’ Season 2

“Life imitates art” has become uncomfortably true in the two short years between the first and second seasons of Greg Daniels’ sci-fi comedy “Upload.”. The series follows recently deceased computer programmer Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell) as he attempts to navigate Lakeview, the digital afterlife space created by a company called Horizen. The first season debuted in 2020, when rumblings of the “metaverse” had yet to make it into the zeitgeist. Since then, the company previously known as Facebook has rebranded as Meta — even taking a few pages from Daniels’ book.
